However considering the resolution values of this lens (see below) it is still a bargain :: I had a bit of a search to get one which finally bumped up the price to 125 USD. I paid 45 USD to get this lens but it came without a mount. It would be hard to beat this lens on price. 2-7-12 I have looked t Bokeh again- perhaps it deserves 7/10įLARE - 8/10 - flares when pointed directly into the sun. There is a hint of CA in high contrast areas but this is well controlledīOKEH- 5/10 not really a bokeh king at all but I will be using this lens stopped down. RECTINEAR DISORTION - 10/10 this is excellent with this lens with no corrections requiredĬOLOURS - 9/10 nicely staurated colours with no significant castĬHROMATIC ABERRATION - 8/10. IMAGE CONTRAST 9/10 - a very well balanced lens with no major highlight blow outs and quite good shadow detail

Is as sharp as my Sigma 50m f2.8 EX DG macro on full frame. Not the very sharpest lenses either of them but pretty good. SHARPNESS - 8/10 - equals the sharpness of the 35mm Carl Zeiis Jena Flektagon 2.5. This lens has a place in that collection. This is clearly a subjective score but it is based on having evaluated about 50 lenses over the last 4 years in my process of triage, to arrive at my "final collection".

This lens has been a surprisingly good performer to the extent that I think it justifies critical review.įirst I shall score the lens out of ten for its main parameters. I was needing a compact sharp prime that had minimal rectilinear distortion so I could do panorama and mosaic work without suffering too many stitching artefacts. MalcolmL wrote: I bought this lens about 9 months ago after reading some reviews that this lens was a gem in the Vivitar t-4 mount line up of the 1960's 70's. The lens does a very good job in most situations and is one of the few lenses I have that looks as sharp on the Sony A7s as it does on the a6500.Posted: Sun 12:31 am Post subject: Vivitar (Tokina made) 35mm f2.8 T-4 mount lens review Still, for those looking for a macro that can double up as a standard lens, the Vivitar might be a good pick. Once fully extended it's an obscene spectacle, but that's to be expected from most vintage macro lenses. The Vivitar is pretty bulky, so it's not the best choice for a walk-around lens, but because it's fairly light, carrying it around isn't a terrible burden. However, in order to get from infinity to 1:1, one has to turn the ring approximately 650° - that's almost two full turns! The super long throw is probably a good thing for macro photography as it gives lots of fine control over focus. The throw is really short between infinity and 0.5 meters (only 90°), so using this lens in non-macro situations allows for very quick (maybe too quick) focusing. The focusing is smooth and is achieved via a wide, nicely textured focus ring. The aperture ring has a nice amount of resistance and clicking through the f-stops is a pleasant experience.

The lens is mostly metal but is surprisingly light.

Length - 65 mm (93mm with adapter 148mm at 1:1).I first saw it briefly reviewed here and liked the look enough to pick up my own copy, which I've been shooting with from time to time for about six months. Although this is not one of those, it is actually a pretty decent lens for the price, and certainly one of the most affordable vintage 1:1 macro lenses on the market.

There's little info out there about this lens, but it seems that it was made by Komine, who also made some of the well-regarded Series 1 Vivitar lenses. The Vivitar 55mm f2.8 Auto Macro is a true 1:1 macro lens available for all popular SLR mounts (mine is an MD variant).
